Unless you’ve been living indoors all year, you, like the rest of the world, have noticed that this year’s high temperatures are not playing around, keeping your HVAC air conditioning repair specialistt very busy! The year is already half over, but 2016 has already taken the cake for hottest year of all time, according to NASA. This has been the first year in history that NASA officials shared a midyear climate analysis due to the temperature averages have been exceedingly higher than previous data; each month in 2016 and even a few months prior to that has been the hottest respective month globally in the modern temperature record dating back to 1880.  This 14-month streak, starting in April of 2015, has been the longest streak of record-breaking temperatures in all 137 years of record keeping. Thus far, in 2016, our planet’s average temperate has been a whopping 2.4 degrees Fahrenheit warmer than the late 19th century.

Effects of high temperatures

These record high temperatures around the globe will have more of an effect on us than sweating a bit more than we are used to.  At the level of heat we are seeing and will continue to see this summer, families, children, adults working outside, and pets left outdoors for too long are in danger of heat stroke and dehydration.  Pets left in cars will most definitely be a health hazard and could cause death if exposed to high temperatures. High temperatures causing asphalt to heat up could lead to tire blowouts making it dangerous for highway drivers simply commuting to work every day.  Even flights could be affected as the high heat makes it more difficult for planes to achieve lift.

What does this mean for the U.S.?

All regions of the United States are seeing this rise in temperatures, but the Southwest region is already seeing average temperatures in the hundreds! The last time temperatures were close to the levels we are expecting in the Southwest region of the U.S. was in 1990 and 2005 after that.

While Southwest United States is used to extreme heat during the summer months, the current and upcoming temperatures being observed and predicted could be dangerous if not deadly if certain precautions aren’t taken. Participating in outdoor activities such as sporting events for long periods of time are being highly discouraged, and many are being cancelled. Staying inside seems to be the best way to avoid the heat and keep your family safe this summer, especially if you are living in a city and state prone to seeing higher temperatures such as Spring, Texas. Staying inside won’t do you any good unless you’ve got a dependable Air Conditioning system that’s been installed by an HVAC air conditioning installation expert to keep your home cool and your family safe and comfortable.  This summer, make sure your current AC is functioning, and if it doesn’t, call an HVAC air conditioning repair or AC installation specialist to install a new, state of the art system that you can afford. When a simple popsicle on a hot summer day doesn’t work anymore, you need to take the steps to ensure the health of your family or business and take things to the next level by getting professional help with your cooling system.
