Happy New Year! Get Your AC Ready for the Spring!

With the new year upon us, now is a great time to review more than just our personal goals and resolutions. Flipping the calendar over to a new year is also a great time to analyze the state our home is in and use that to identify what needs fixes, changes, or any other type of improvement to prepare for the coming year.

At KAC Express, we’re going to help you look at some ways to improve your air conditioning system through AC maintenance that will help to prepare your system for the spring. Some elements of air conditioning maintenance can be done at home and with tools and resources that you already have.

Examine Your AC Breaker

The first thing you’ll want to do is check the breaker for your AC. Sometimes the unit won’t even power on, and this is simply because the breaker your AC is connected to has been tripped. Checking your breaker is the easiest “fix” to check before moving onto other assumptions that your AC isn’t functional.

Check the AC/Heater Thermostat

To test your air conditioning system before spring has arrived, you’ll want to temporarily set your thermostat to a temperature slightly below the current room temperature. If your system isn’t turning on like it normally would, then try replacing the batteries in the thermostat. Sometimes that’s all that’s needed to get your AC going, rather than spending a lot of money on air conditioning repair.

Examine the AC’s Air Filter

If you’re looking for another way to prepare your AC for the spring or improve its efficiency all year round, take a minute to check the air filter! In many cases, the air filter has simply not been replaced in a while and either needs to be cleaned or replaced. This allows air to flow freely through the filter while keeping your air clean. You’ll want to make a habit of consistently checking the air filter in order to avoid further complications that could require an AC replacement in the future.

Melt Residual Ice Buildup

During the winter, sometimes ice can get into the system and cause complications when ice builds up. This is not an uncommon occurrence, especially when the AC has been running during warmer days of spring and the air filter hasn’t been cleaned or replaced in a while. Simply turn the AC off, let the ice melt, or run only the fan to help the ice melt if it’s blowing warm enough air through the system.

Call a Professional

For more serious complications with your air conditioning system, sometimes you’ll find that you’ll need AC repair in Spring, TX, or might even need a full air conditioning replacement. If your AC is ever damaged or isn’t functioning correctly, then you’ll want to call a professional to help analyze the problem, or you may risk further damage.
